NOTE: FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS EXPLICITLY TO ENSURE PROPER OPERATION OF ALL ANIMAC FEATURES.
Most Macintoshes can be used together with ANIMAC. The requirements are: 68030 or better processor, ADB keyboard, 256-color display. For sound, a microphone input is required. System 7.0 or later is required.
First you should set up the Macintosh computer as decribed in its User's manual. Please note that the ANIMAC Program's digitizer commands only work if the ANIMAC hardware is connected to your computer.
Then, attach the camera delivered with ANIMAC to a copy stand and, after making sure that the power is off all equipment, connect the camera to the computer's modem port, which is marked with a telephone handset symbol. See camera installation instructions in the camera manual. (If you have any modem or fax software installed on your computer, disable it whenever you wish to use the camera.)
Attach the "software enabler" (delivered with a purchased copy of ANIMAC) to the computer's ADB receptacle, and plug the keyboard cable into the software enabler. If you have a PowerBook, just attach the software enabler to the ADB receptacle. Without it, ANIMAC will run in "demo mode" only. DO NOT MISPLACE THE SOFTWARE ENABLER! It is uniquely keyed to the ANIMAC program, and if it is lost, you must purchase a new ANIMAC package.
If you wish to record sound into ANIMAC from a tape recorder or amplifier, plug the "sound attenuator" (delivered with ANIMAC) into the Mac's microphone input, and attach a cable from your tape recorder's line-out jack to the sound adapter. (Some modern Macs have a microphone input that can handle line-level signals directly, and do not need the attenuator. See the Read-Me file for further instructions.) The sound attenuator has a "RCA"-type receptacle which is the most common for line-level signals. If your tape recorder's cable doesn't fit, a stereo dealer can supply you with a suitable adapter. NEVER attach the Mac (with or without attenuator) to a recorder or amplifier loudspeaker output! If you want to record with a microphone, it should be the special microphone supplied with your Mac.
